About This Calculator
The Zambia semester GPA calculator uses the grading scale adopted by the University of Zambia (UNZA), Copperbelt University (CBU), Mulungushi University, and most other Zambian higher education institutions. Unlike the standard 4.0 GPA scale used in some countries, Zambian universities use a grade point system scaled to 11.00, with A+ carrying the maximum of 11 grade points. This calculator accurately reflects that system.
Zambian University Grading System
Zambia’s university grading system assigns a grade point value to each letter grade. The GPA is calculated as a weighted average of these grade points, weighted by the number of credit hours each course carries. A course worth more credit hours contributes more to the overall GPA than a course worth fewer credits.

English (3 credits): A = 10.00 → 10.00 × 3 = 30.00 quality points

How CGPA Is Calculated
The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) combines results from all semesters completed to date. It is a weighted average of all quality points earned across the entire programme, divided by total credit hours attempted. A strong early performance builds a CGPA cushion; a weaker semester can lower it significantly if the credit load is high.

- Focus on high-credit courses: A course worth 4 credit hours moves your GPA more than a 1-credit course. Prioritise your study time accordingly.
